Who can play football for SYFO? Athletes under the age of 15 entering the 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th grades that reside within the Slinger High School district boundaries are eligible to play for the Slinger Youth Football Organization.
Is there a cost to play football for SYFO? Yes. The annual fee is $225 for the first player in your family. The yearly fee is $100 for each additional player in your family. How do SYFO yearly fees compare to other teams in the league? Our yearly fees are one of the lowest in the league.
What is the fee used for? The annual fee is used to purchase uniforms, equipment, pay referees, field maintenance and other club expenses. To join click here.
What equipment will SYFO provide for a player? SYFO will provide a Football Helmet (NOC-SAE approved), Shoulder Pads, Game/Practice Jerseys, Game/Practice Pants w/Pads, Game/Practice belts and a mouthgard. Players are issued appx. $275.00 in equipment to play. The equipment is some of the finest available for youth football, upgraded and maintained to provide the players with safe equipment every season.
What size football does SYFO use? SYFO game balls are Wilson TDY 1300 leather footballs. The TDY is a "Youth/Junior High" size football for 10 to 13 year olds. If you are looking for a football for pre-season practice at home, prices for the leather TDY 1300 are around $40.00. Wilson also makes a composite leather TDY youth football for around $20.00. It is the same size as the leather TDY for half the price. Otherwise any "youth" size football will work fine for practice at home.
What additional equipment will the player need to purchase? Players must provide their own football shoes or soccer shoes, athletic supporter and any additional pads they may desire for safety (ie. hand, forearm pads). Players will also need a water bottle to bring water to every practice.
When is the first practice? The first practice is held the first Saturday in August.
How often can the team practice? Before school begins in the fall there is no practice limit set by the league. Once school begins there is a league limit of 6 practice hours per week. Practices are typically 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during the school year.
Where will practices be held? Practices will be held on the Slinger Middle School practice fields behind the baseball diamonds.
How will the players get to practice? Parents are responsible for providing transportation to and from practice for their players.
What should the players bring to practice? Players should bring a full water bottle, practice uniform, helmet, mouthguard and plenty of energy.
How many games will be played? The 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade teams will each play 8 games. All teams will also participate in two team scrimmages before the league games start up.
What days are the games? The first game is the second Saturday in September and then every Saturday through the last weekend of October. The scrimmages are in August. Click on the Game Schedule link to see the game schedule. Opponents will be listed after the schedule is set by the league.
What time are the games? The 8th grade team plays at 9:00 am. The 7th grade plays at 10:30 am. The 6th grade plays at 12:00 noon. The 5th grade plays at 1:30 pm. On occasion games are moved to late afternoon and evening times to played under lights.
Where are games played? Home games are played on the Slinger High School football field. You can view online maps to away games by clicking on the Game Schedule link and then clicking on the 'Map Link' for each Away game.
How will the players get to the games? Parents are responsible for providing transportation to both home and away games for their players.
Do the players need a physical examination? This decision is up to the parent(s) to have a physical examination completed on their player. AAYFL and SYFO do not require the players to have a physical examination. The parent(s)/guardian(s) must however sign the physical examination waiver and release of liability section on the registration form.
